The good ol' days by =Bwarch:iconBwarch:

The good ol' days
A review and a look back
Written by: Bwarch

The good ol' days... anybody care to guess what this one is going to be about? Well, the good ol' days obviously, but WHAT about the good ol' days? I'll tell ya right now: All the franchises that went to waste, went to the bottom of the ocean and let this flotsam take their place.
Mainly this is going to focus on just two of the many things that were left behind that should so have not been: The Sonic franchise and good television in general. These days not one person who knows what these two are all about can look at them and not grimace with distaste. In short, people are stupid to leave behind all of this treasure and take up trash instead, like throwing away a gem and picking up a banana peel.
I'm only going to spend a short time on the Sonic franchise because I've always said it before, always stated it very plainly, and even discussed it with people before. So anyway, let's take a look back:

-Sonic-
It's the early nineties and the videogame market is feeling quite... empty. Whole game stores have not taken this kind of beating for quite a while. Plumbers and space explorers in 16 bit just don't cut it anymore. And than, rising out from seemingly nowhere a rival appears for Mario and Nintendo itself. Kids wanted somebody who could mimic their frustrated attitude, somebody who was impatient and fought adults. What we got was a symbol of justice itself:
Sonic the Hedgehog.

On June 23 1991, Sonic the Hedgehog was released for the first time to the videogame market, and we were blown away. The amazing graphics, the intense speed, Sonic's stance that would be viewed as impatient displayed every time you stopped him for a small while... It was all wonderful.
And than Sonic 2 was released on select systems in Europe on October 29, 1992 and Tails was introduced... sorta. Those who saw it were... slightly disappointed. But than, another game under the same name came out: Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Now this is Tails true entry point, players could now play as the lovable fox in two player mode and go through this amazing game. Sega had come through once again.
But in 1994, an immaculate chorus broke out as the achievement of a lifetime was revealed: Sonic 3 was released. This game was incredible, it was unbelievable, it was sheerly ADDICTIVE. And than the Sonic and Knuckles add on came in and upped the fun for all of us. The story line was extended and we could now play as the gullible knuckle head.

But than... after the achievements of the Sonic Adventure series... it all seemed to go south. Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic '06, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Wave Riders... it was gone. It was all... gone. Something happened that changed Sega forever, now, they had changed into something none of the fans wanted.

-Looney Tunes-
Alright, now then, no "The good ol' days" list is complete without at least mentioning the Looney Tunes. Now, Looney Tunes is purely classic, it was when cartoons were only just beginning to catch on and then Looney Tunes came along and revolutionized cartoons forever. For many years after which it came, various cartoons actually TOOK the lead from Looney Tunes and emulated the series in many ways. In fact, back in the day when you said "Cartoons" the image that popped into everybodies head was Looney Tunes!
It was just so SIMPLE yet so very fun to watch, mindless violence and many jokes, not to mention the best mascots ever. Bugs Bunny being the most prominent and loved.
Fortunately Looney Tunes was never ruined (Or at least, in my opinion, those who saw the recent movies would probably disagree but I myself found the same charm in those as in the old cartoons) but it was just the fact that you never really see Looney Tunes anymore unless you go looking for the DVDs or on youtube. In other words, it looks like the greatest thing to happen to television has been left behind.

-Megas XLR-
In an age in which anime is intensely popular and you can't go through the channels without seeing at LEAST one "Supah awesome giant robot anime show" a group of people got together and decided to put their own special spin on the genre, what they came up with was Megas XLR, a comedic, intergalactic giant space robot show. The show featured two friends, one of whom is a video game genius, who find a giant space robot and customize it. Soon after hilarity enters when the other main character, a red headed female comes from the future to bring the prototype back with her.
(Not exactly the best description but i haven't seen the show in forever, and why? Because it was canceled like so many other good shows.)
Megas XLR had one of the coolest, shortest intros ever seen in a cartoon and the comedy and plots were always rather creative and unique. Thus earning it a medal in my opinion in history. Which is where it is, since it was canceled.

To be continued...
(I will add more things that were either ruined or left behind every so often, if you believe you know something in these two categories, suggest it and I just might feature it.)

And it was a first game worth playing lol Sonic Adventure was awesome, I of course only played the DX version but I have a feeling it's about the same.

I think Sonic Heroes was actually pretty good, actually.

I've witnessed complete silence many times, and it's not silent at all. It's a ringing in your ears that keeps telling you that you're alone.

It was okay, at best, it was okay. The only thing I'm willing to credit it for is being the last game to have the original ideas in it.

Storyline wasn't the best, but I love how the did the levels and made it so that you can play every character on a team at once

True, the gameplay was pretty good, if just a bit disappointing since it wasn't as fast as other sonic games.

Going to fast isn't something I like: I like a game that can be played in days at the minimum, not hours.
